It's a good question to raise given parents are allowed to opt out of the school using photographs of their children. I suppose if parents only videoed their child and only watched it themselvesshowed it to grandparents it would be fine but in this day and age it doesn't stop there as proud parents post their child 'prodigy' to YouTube and include any other child in the vicinity.

I don't think there is an easy answer and it's a very grey area, which is probably why there are no official guidelines on it - no-one wants to tackle it.

How about if parents didn't opt-in to having photos taken then perhaps their children shouldn't perform?

Just a shame I can't find all the class pictures that were published on the internet earlier this year by the photographer. I'm not sure that's what the school had in mind when they hired him.

It would be a shame that if you and your child have escaped from an abusive partner to then further penalise that child by not allowing them to perform with the other children on the off-chance that the partner might find them through it. But it is entirely conceivable that some parents do in fact do this.
