Facebook?
Should I join Facebook
Should I join Facebook?

About four or five years ago there was some weirdness between a really good friend of mine (Stafford Cawsey, in case he goes searching for his own name and finds this). It all got messed up and we haven't seen or spoken to each other since then.
Last week my mum happened to meet him and he said that he really wanted to get back in touch. He suggested that I could find him on Facebook.
Herein lies my dilemma.
I have deliberately avoided creating a Facebook profile (or MySpace or just-about any other site like that (LinkedIn and Twitter excepted)). I did have a friendsreunited profile but deleted it some time ago as nobody that I'd ever known actually used it.
My reasons for not creating profiles on social networking sites are as follows:
- It takes effort
- I don't really have time
- I don't need to know what my friends are up to (this may seem to contradict my LinkedIn/Twitter use, but I think it's slightly different)
- I don't need it illustrated that I don't actually know anyone (not that I care)
So, in order to make contact with him I would have to sign-up, probably be seen by all the other people that I really don't care about, and then, if I have the will, leave.
Should I bother? Should I then keep the profile? Does anyone care?
(and I finish writing the 'comments' code then you could actually comment - but in the mean time mail me or comment via Twitter)
(Edit - Comments now open) :-)
